Legal Wales and LEDLET teams up with Siôn Mullane Foundation

The Siôn Mullane Foundation has confirmed that it will be giving financial assistance to the LEDLET-Legal Wales School Students’ Summer Scheme in 2022. The Foundation’s vison is to enable young people from all backgrounds to feel inspired and empowered to fulfil their potential and works with schools and organisations in Wales to provide support for initiatives that promote the education and social mobility of young people. This support follows the announcement by Huw Williams, the chair of Legal Wales, at the Legal Wales Conference 2021 that discussions between Legal Wales and the Foundation were underway. In his remarks the Conference, Huw said: “Siôn Mullane was brought up in Cardiff and after Radyr Comprehensive School – where he was noted for both his debating and his talent on the rugby pitch, and University College London – where he studied economics, he embarked on a promising banking career before his tragic death at the age of 27 in June 2020. Siôn’s partner, family and very wide circle of friends have now set up the Foundation in Siôn’s memory to help young people from all backgrounds to feel inspired and empowered to fulfil their potential – aims that would have been close to Sion’s heart. Legal Wales and LEDLET are honoured therefore that the Foundation considers that the Summer Scheme to be one of the first initiatives identified as matching up to this vision.” Lucy Van Amerongen, chair of the Siôn Mullane Foundation welcomed the link up with Legal Wales and LEDLET saying: “It was apparent as soon as we were introduced to the LEDLET-Legal Wales Summer Scheme that its aims aligned completely with the Siôn Mullane Foundation’s vision of inspiring young people to fulfil their potential. We look forward to fund-raising to help Legal Wales and LEDLET further develop this excellent initiative.” Thomas Jones, the treasurer of LEDLET, also welcomed the collaboration noting: “I am delighted that the Siôn Mullane Foundation, Legal Wales and LEDLET will be working together to further our aligned aims.
